Notes from the Bridge

Take Me To The Bridge

By

The Bridge returned for a second series on Saturday. As in the first series, the Oresund Bridge linking Sweden and Denmark sets the scene. This time a tanker is rammed into the bridge – and so the bridge once again becomes the premise for the formation of the Swedish and Danish detective partnership. Another Scandinavian series looks set to become an engaging favourite with UK audiences.

Of course we at the Bridge are happy to have this landmark namesake television series enjoy such broadcast popularity. Our name, however, is not based on the physical structure or characteristics of any particular bridge but is meant to be a metaphor: a link between a company and its audiences, or problem and solution, or media and the best talent in communications.

Indeed, the Bridge on the TV is as much about Scandinavian relationships and collaboration as it is about physical connections.

The proximity of a work place to local bridges often inspires companies to name themselves ‘The Bridge’, perhaps none more prominently than the ‘Bridge Café’ featured in the television series ‘The Apprentice’. Although this location is used as part of the process of being fired, the actual café choice is a coincidence given it is round the corner from the boardroom location. Nevertheless, we can’t help yielding an ironic smile as the hapless team of young business hopefuls attempt desperately to build bridges with their colleagues. Even here The Bridge holds the secret to success – good connections!
